Australian Rowing Championships return to Lake Barrington

Tasmania will host the Australian Rowing Championships (ARC) at our beautiful Lake Barrington International Rowing Course in 2025 from 24-30 March.

What a fantastic opportunity for our rowing community and for the state to be part of the Green and Gold runway towards the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games!

Read more about the ARC2025 news here

Camping area safety

A Swags Only Area has been set up north east of the Kentish Rowing Club Boatshed and will be partitioned off for regattas.

The area is open to all schools and clubs and is a safe space where cars/caravans are not allowed to enter.

Please be respectful of each others' space and privacy and be sure to observe the 10pm curfew.

  • REMINDER: Cars are to park horizontal to the slope throughout the camping area.

RSL renovations reminder

A reminder that if you'd planned on dining at the Sheffield RSL and Citizens Club any evening of Schools Regatta #2 you will need to make alternative plans.

The venue is closed for renovations from February 12-18.

We can't wait for the Club to reopen with its new look and to again enjoy the great food on offer!

Coastal Regatta Wrap Up

Coastal Regatta Wrap Up

Tasmania's first Coastal Regatta was held as part of the Sandy Bay Regatta on the 27th January. The event was fast paced with high energy from all competitors (and spectators).

A big thankyou to Sandy Bay Rowing Club and Glenorchy Rowing Club for managing and coaching some young (and one not so young) up and coming coastal rowing competitors.

St Virgil's crews were successful in the double scull event taking out the first medals for coastal rowing in Tasmania.

Congratulations to those clubs and schools that attended and were keen to try out the coastal boats.

Level 2 Coaching Workshop

Rowing Tasmania will facilitate Level 2 Coaching Practical Workshops in the North and South of the State.

We have invited Ron Batt, Rowing Australia's Sport Development Manager, to run these for us in May.

To participate in the Level 2 workshop you will need to have been a Level 1 rowing coach for at least 12 months, or have an exemption confirmed by the Participation and Education team.

Register on our Events page here.

For more details on the workshops please contact Sarah Black operations@rowingtasmania.com.au

Field of Play Lake Barrington

Please be aware that if you row past the 800 metres on either side of the Start or Finish tower you have left the Field of Play.

The Field of Play is the area that is controlled by the Boat Race Officials. Field of Play at Lake Barrington is between the Start and Finish lines, plus 800m past these points.

If you row past here you are then subject to MAST regulations. If you are rowing and there is not a coach boat within 500 metres of the crew, each crew member must wear an approved life jacket.

If you are not wearing a life jacket you cannot row past the 800m point as marked on the map.

Busy weekend on Derwent and Tamar rivers

In the South of the State, the 186th Royal Hobart Regatta lights up the Derwent River on Saturday, February 10, while in the North, the Launceston & Henley Regatta will be held over two days on the Home Reach course of the Tamar River on Saturday, February 10 and Sunday,  February 11.

Follow the link here for information on Royal Hobart Regatta.

Launceston & Henley Regatta information is available here.

Bow numbers collection

We would like to remind all athletes that bow numbers at club, school and championship regattas may only be collected one hour before a race as races may be altered or consolidated up to that time.

Safety checks at School Regatta #2

Volunteers will undertake boat safety checks in the boat park at Regattas - including School Regattas - before crews go on the water. Checks include correctly attached bow balls, correct height heel ties, quick release shoe ties and intact hatch covers to ensure they are in line with safety requirements.

Please ensure these comply BEFORE heading to the ways.

If you are not sure what the requirements are then ask your coach, director of rowing or a BRO for help.

Rowing Tasmania has other informative safety documents and videos on our website. Please take the time to make yourself familiar with them here.
