Rowing Tasmania has started the search for its next Chief Executive Officer to take over the hands-on role of leading all operational aspects of the sport of rowing in Tasmania.

Congratulations to Olivia Yeates and Sam Mounter, who have been selected in the Australian Under 23 team for 2025.

Olivia (TUBC/TIS) has been selected in the U23 Women's Quad Sculls, and Sam (TUBC) will row in the U23 Men's Quad Sculls crew to compete in Poznan, Poland, at the World Rowing Under 23 Championships from July 23-27.

Olivia and Sam were selected after a rigorous trial process at SIRC, Penrith, in April. They will now relocate to NSW to train at the National Training Centre before heading to Europe to compete.

Insurance for RA-accredited coaches

V-Insurance Groups has worked closely with Rowing Australia to design and provide an insurance program for coaches that are accredited with RA.

Q&A from the Brochure:
Q: I am a rowing coach with a club, however I am not accredited by Rowing Australia. Am I covered by the insurance program?
A: No

Q: I am paid a fee to coach by various clubs and individuals. Am I covered by this insurance program?
A: So long as you are an accredited Rowing Australia coach and coach within your accreditation, you are covered.

Q: Am I covered for allegations made against me relating to abuse or molestation?
A: Yes

The 2024-2025 regatta season is now completed and Rowing Tasmania would like to hear from you on your thoughts and feelings about the season.

The survey information that comes back from you will help the Board plan for the coming year.

This survey is only for our Pennant, Masters and School regattas and does not include Nationals and community events.

Opportunity to meet RA's new Para Lead Coach

Next week Rowing Australia's new Para Lead Coach, Christine McLaren, will be visiting Tasmania.

The Tasmanian Institute of Sport (TIS) will host informal gatherings in the north and south of the State for coaches to meet Christine and to learn about RA's para program - athlete eligibility, coaching and general development of para rowing.

South

Venue: Upstairs at New Town Bay Rowing Centre

North
Date & Time: Thursday 22nd May from 6pm

Venue: Bolters Bar & Grill, Country Club Villas, 10 Casino Rise, Prospect Vale

Masters Interstate Team announced


Rowing Tasmania recently announced the Masters Interstate Team that will represent Tasmania in the Interstate Regatta at the Australian Masters Rowing Championships later this month.

Women's 4X: Alison Kirkwood (Mersey RC), Sandra Wilson (Ulverstone RC), Jane Hilliard (Tasmania University BC), Gina Anderson (Ulverstone RC), Coach: Michael Wilson (Ulverstone RC)

Men's 4X: Michael Wilson (Ulverstone RC), James Cowley (Lindisfarne RC), Tom Wilcox (Lindisfarne RC), Philip Hutton (Lindisfarne RC)

Mens 8+: Shane Broad (Mersey RC), Jonathan Pitt (Lindisfarne RC), Patrick Bird (North Esk RC), Pete Gibson (Buckingham RC), Gregory Marshall (Mersey RC), Roberto Ojeda (North Esk RC), Robert Wrigley (North Esk RC), Deon Birtwistle (North Esk RC), Cox: Claire Gregg (North Esk RC)

AMRC25 is at Sydney International Regatta Centre, Penrith, from May 29 - June 1.

Entries for the regatta close 11.59pm (AEST) on Monday, 19 May 2025.

Oceania Teams Rowing Championships

Rowing Tasmania is calling for nominations from Athletes and Coaches for the Oceania Under 22 Teams Rowing Championships which will be held in Adelaide from the 24th to the 27th of July 2025.

The event is for Under 22s and we will compete against the other states (and the ACT) plus teams from New Zealand.

To nominate, you must be 18 years of age as at the first day of competition and no more than 21 years of age as at the 31st of December 2025. Para athletes are exempt from the maximum age requirements.

NOTE: If you have made an U23 or Senior National team and are a current member of the Australian National Training Centres you are not eligible.

Grant Writing Workshops

Clubs Tasmania in conjuction with the Tasmanian Community Fund is offering a series of free grant writing workshops in June.

The workshops are suitable for first time grant writers as well as those wishing to gain extra tips on how to put your best words forward when applying for funding.
