Rowing Tasmania welcomes new CEO

After a thorough, nation-wide recruitment process, the Board of Rowing Tasmania is pleased to announce the appointment of Justin Dent as the new CEO of Rowing Tasmania.

Justin is an experienced sports administrator with significant experience in leadership roles at all levels of sport in Australia.

In the last 10 years he has been CEO of a State Sporting Organisation (Riding for the Disabled, SA) and CEO at the National level with Riding for the Disabled Australia. Before this he worked as a Community Partnerships Manager in a not-for-profit organisation and as a State Development Office with the SANFL.

Rowing is new to Justin, and he is keen to understand how our sport works. His extensive experience in advocacy, stakeholder and volunteer management, and in leading change will facilitate a new chapter for rowing in Tasmania.

Justin started at Rowing Tasmania on Wednesday, July 16, and the Board and I warmly welcome him to the rowing family.

Justin will initially be based in the south but will engage statewide and, of course, will be familiarising himself with Lake Barrington and other venues.

Ella will represent Australia in the double at the FISU World University Games in Germany. The rowing venue (pictured above) is in the city of Duisburg, with competition from July 25-27.

All three represented Tasmania in state crews at the Interstate Regatta on the final day of the 2025 Australian Rowing Championships at Lake Barrington in March.

Safety: Cold water immersion

The water in Tasmania is cold for most of the year and if you end up in the water, hypothermia can set in at any time.

The effects of falling into cold water can be deadly. Marine and Safety Tasmania went to the Australian Antarctic Division to look at the impact of cold water immersion.

Find out more about the 1:10:1 Principle | Three Phases of Cold Water Immersion and watch the MaST video here.

Rowing Tasmania has a range of safety videos specific to rowing - including Heel Ties and Bowballs, Lights on Rowing Shells, and What to Do When You Capsize Your Shell - on our website. You can find them here.

You can read MaST's Safe Boating - Rowing information on their website.
