Winter Foundations for High Performance is a targeted winter development program for rowers who are ready to take the next step in their rowing journey.

The program is designed for athletes with the ambition, commitment and mindset to build the physical, technical and performance foundations required to compete at a higher level. Through a structured winter program, athletes will undertake weights training, set ergometer sessions, cross-training and regular on-water rowing sessions.

Mid-week on-water sessions will be based out of Buckingham Rowing Club, with weekend sessions held at Huon Rowing Club. The program will also include two interstate trips, giving athletes the opportunity to immerse themselves in high-performance rowing environments and learn from established programs.

The program will for those able include a trip to Sydney, hosted by Sydney University Boat Club, where athletes will take part in the first 5km time trial of the season on the Nepean River. This will provide an important early benchmark and a valuable experience in a competitive performance setting.

At the conclusion of the program, the intent is that all athletes return to their school and/or club programs stronger, fitter, more technically developed and better prepared to contribute to their regular rowing environments. Winter Foundations for High Performance is not designed to replace school or club rowing, but to complement and strengthen it by helping committed athletes build the foundations required for future success.

Please note that this program will work in conjunction with the Buckingham Winter Program.
