Tasmania flying high: Three of our own representing Australia in Europe
It is a proud moment for Tasmanian rowing. Two athletes and one coach with deep Tasmanian roots are heading to Europe to represent Australia on the international stage and we could not be more excited to cheer them on.
Hamish Allan, Australia A Team, Men's Squad
Twenty-five-year-old Hamish Allan is one of Tasmania's own. He learned to row at The Hutchins School here in Hobart, where his love for the sport took root. After Year 12, Hamish moved to South Australia to pursue his studies and, for a time, AFL ambitions, but it is on the water where he has truly made his mark.
Now rowing for AUBC/SASI, Hamish has been named in the Australia A Team for the upcoming European campaign. He departs for Amsterdam next month and will compete at the Holland Beker Regatta (20–21 June) in the Netherlands, followed by World Cup III in Lucerne, Switzerland (27–28 June).
The Australia A initiative gives emerging athletes international racing experience and a real shot at World Championships selection. Hamish's inclusion is a testament to his dedication and development as an athlete and a moment of enormous pride for everyone in the Tasmanian rowing community who watched him get his start on the water.
Ella Marshall, Para Rowsella, PR3 Mixed Double Scull
Former Mersey Rowing Club athlete Ella Marshall is already on her way. Ella has departed for Milan with the Australian Para Rowing Team (the Rowsellas), where she will compete in the PR3 Mixed Double Scull at World Cup III in Lucerne.
Ella's journey from Mersey to the Australian national Para team is an extraordinary one, and a reminder of what is possible when talent, hard work, and opportunity come together. We are incredibly proud to call her one of our own.
Nadia Bleaken Head Coach, Australia A Women's Team
Completing a remarkable Tasmanian trio is Nadia Bleaken, who has been appointed Head Coach of the Australia A Women's crew for the Holland Beker Cup and World Cup III. Nadia travels with the Australia A squad to Amsterdam on 17 June.
Coaching at this level on the international stage is a significant achievement, and Nadia's appointment reflects the talent and expertise that exists right here in Tasmania. Her leadership of the women's A Team crew is something the whole Tasmanian rowing community can take pride in.
A Proud Moment for Tasmania
Three Tasmanians. Three different journeys. One shared destination: representing Australia on the world stage.
At Rowing Tasmania, we believe in building pathways that give our athletes and coaches the best possible chance to reach their potential, and moments like this are proof that those pathways lead somewhere extraordinary.
We will be following Hamish, Ella, and Nadia closely over the coming weeks and wish them all the very best.
Go well. Go fast. Go Tasmania.
